The Tony-nominated musical The Outsiders, based on S.E. Hinton’s classic novel and the iconic 1983 film, is set to embark on a national tour. The tour will kick off in Tulsa, the hometown of the story, at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center in the fall of 2025. Additional locations and details will be announced in the coming months.
Currently captivating audiences at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, The Outsiders has garnered 12 Tony nominations, including Best Musical. The show has also received acting nominations for Brody Grant and Sky Lakota-Lynch. The musical follows the turbulent lives of Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their chosen family as they struggle to survive in 1967 Oklahoma.
Directed by Dayna Taymor, the production features a book co-written by Tony Award nominee Adam Rapp and Tony winner Justin Levine. The score is composed by the folk duo Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Levine. The show’s creative team includes scenic design by AMP and Tatiana Kahvegian, costume design by Tony nominee Sarafina Bush, lighting design by Tony winner Brian MacDevitt, sound design by Cody Spencer, and projection design by Hana Kim.
The Outsiders premiered at La Jolla Playhouse in the spring of 2023 before transferring to Broadway. With its impending national tour, the musical is poised to reach new audiences across North America, bringing the gripping tale of Ponyboy and his gang to life on stages beyond Broadway.
