The Notebook to Wrap Up Broadway Run This Winter

The Notebook, the new musical by Ingrid Michaelson and Bekah Brunstetter, is set to conclude its Broadway run on December 15. Based on the beloved Nicholas Sparks novel and the hit film, the show will have played 35 previews and 317 regular performances at the Schoenfeld Theatre.

The cast features Tony Award-winner Maryann Plunkett as Older Allie and Dorian Harewood as Older Noah, with Joy Woods and Ryan Vasquez portraying Middle Allie and Middle Noah. Jordan Tyson and John Cardoza play Younger Allie and Younger Noah, respectively. Rounding out the cast are Andréa Burns as Mother/Nurse Lori and Carson Stewart as Johnny/Fin, along with ensemble members Yassmin Alers, Alex Benoit, Chase Del Rey, Hillary Fisher, Jerome Harmann-Hardeman, Dorcas Leung, Happy McPartlin, Juliette Ojeda, Kim Onah, Charles E. Wallace, and Charlie Webb.

Directed by Michael Greif and Schele Williams, the production boasts choreography by Katie Spelman and scenic design by David Zinn and Brett J. Banakis. Paloma Young handles costume design, with lighting by Ben Stanton, sound by Nevin Steinberg, and hair and wig design by Mia Neal. The musical’s score is overseen by music supervisor Carmel Dean, who also collaborated on arrangements with Ingrid Michaelson and orchestrations with John Clancy. Geoffrey Ko serves as the music director.

The Notebook first made waves at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre before making its way to Broadway, earning Tony nominations for Plunkett, Harewood, and Brunstetter’s script along the way. Critics praised it as a “guaranteed tearjerker,” capturing the hearts of audiences.

While the Broadway chapter is coming to a close, fans won’t have to say goodbye for long—a national tour is slated to kick off in 2025, with hopes of bringing this heartwarming story to stages across the country. So, keep an eye out, because The Notebook might just be coming to a theater near you!
