The Lehman Trilogy Returns to London’s West End Starting September 24
The Tony Award-winning play The Lehman Trilogy returns to London’s West End on September 24, marking another highly anticipated run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes, the production explores the rise and fall of the Lehman Brothers, the financial institution whose collapse triggered a global economic crisis.
Written by Stefano Massini and adapted by Ben Power, The Lehman Trilogy has received critical acclaim for its sweeping narrative, which spans three generations of the Lehman family. The play follows their humble beginnings, phenomenal success, and ultimate downfall, delivering a captivating portrayal of the American Dream’s triumphs and failures.
Returning to the stage are John Heffernan, Aaron Krohn, and Howard W. Overshown, who portray the Lehman brothers, their descendants, and a host of other characters. Cat Beveridge and Anyssa Neumann reprise their roles as principal and alternate pianists, respectively, with Valentine Hanson, Leighton Pugh, and Simon Victor serving as understudies, the latter also performing as the Janitor. Ali Berry completes the company as the pianist understudy.
The production’s creative team features the work of renowned designers: Es Devlin on set design, Katrina Lindsay on costumes, and Jon Clark on lighting. Luke Halls provides video design, while Nick Powell and Dominic Bilkey helm music and sound design. Movement direction is by Polly Bennett, with West End direction by Rory McGregor.
After debuting at the National Theatre in 2018, The Lehman Trilogy garnered widespread success, including a sold-out run at New York’s Park Avenue Armory in 2019. The production earned five 2022 Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Director, and Best Actor. It also secured the Drama League Award for Best Play and six Outer Critics Circle Awards.
Following a recent stop in San Francisco, The Lehman Trilogy will run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre until January 5, 2025, offering audiences one last chance to witness this riveting theatrical event.
