The Craft’s Screenwriter Teases Potential Musical Version in the Works

Guess what? The beloved ’90s teen horror flick, ‘The Craft,’ might be taking center stage – literally! Peter Filardi, the genius behind the story, spilled the beans that he’s toying with the idea of a Broadway musical adaptation of the movie. The ball is still rolling, but man, wouldn’t it be awesome if it came to life?

For the uninitiated, ‘The Craft’ dives into the story of Sarah, a new girl in a Los Angeles high school, who teams up with three budding witches. Together, they stir up some dark magic – with equally dark consequences. Despite its modest budget, the movie made a splash in the ’90s, earning cult favorite status. There was a sequel in 2020, but let’s just say it didn’t quite cast the same spell on critics.

Speaking of movies-turned-musicals, ‘Mean Girls’ aced that transition and is now switching lanes back to the big screen. Mark your calendars! January 12, 2024, promises a treat with the movie adaptation of the ‘Mean Girls’ musical. Angourie Rice steps into Cady’s shoes, while Reneé Rapp, Auli’i Cravalho, and Jaquel Spivey are among the fab cast. And for a cherry on top, we’ve got Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Jon Hamm, Ashley Park, and more, including a sprinkle of Tina Fey herself!

So, fingers crossed ‘The Craft’ follows the musical path. And in the meantime, we have the ‘Mean Girls’ movie musical to look forward to. Exciting times, right?
