The 2020 Tony Award nominations announced

On Friday morning, the 2020 Tony award nominations were announced.

Jagged Little Pill, the Alanis Morisette musical, lead with 15 nominations – one in every eligible category for a musical. Moulin Rouge! followed with 14 nominations. Alongside these two in the Best Musical category is Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. The only other eligible show for the category, The Lightning Thief, received no nominations.

For the first time in Broadway history, all 3 musicals in the Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Orchestration categories are jukebox musicals. 2020 is also the first time ever that no musical has been nominated for Best Original score – all nominees are plays.

Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play broke records for the most ever nominations for a play with a staggering 12 nominations.
