Sheryl Lee Ralph Reflects on Wicked and Praises the Film Cast

Emmy-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph is celebrating the success of the Wicked films while fondly recalling her own time in the beloved Broadway musical.

Ralph, who starred as Madame Morrible on Broadway from 2016 to 2017, admitted in a recent interview that she briefly wished she had been asked to reprise her role in the big-screen version. “One of the greatest times I’ve had onstage was playing Madame Morrible in Wicked on Broadway,” Ralph said. “I just wish they had asked me to play [her] in the film! But that’s all right, it wasn’t mine to have, but it’s okay.”

The film adaptation features a star-studded cast with Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Michelle Yeoh stepping into the role of Madame Morrible. Ralph praised Yeoh’s performance, noting how each actor brings their own unique energy to the story. “Everybody brings their own special flavor to these roles. My flavor is what I bring, and she brought what she brought, and it’s wonderful,” she said.

Ralph also applauded the rest of the cast, adding, “I love Cynthia, I adore Ariana, and Jonathan Bailey, I swoon. So I’m loving it all.”

The first installment of Wicked debuted in November to great fanfare, and the sequel, Wicked: For Good, is set to arrive in cinemas on November 21. Ralph has encouraged fans to continue supporting the adaptation, writing on Instagram that Michelle Yeoh delivers “a marvelous performance” and reminding audiences not to miss the magical journey on the big screen.
