Scissorhandz Pop Musical to Premiere in the UK
London, UK – A bold, pop-infused reinterpretation of Edward Scissorhands titled Scissorhandz: A Musical Reinvented is set to make its European debut at Southwark Playhouse Elephant early next year. Running from January 23 to March 29, 2025, the show promises to bring a vibrant, celebratory take on individuality and self-expression, fueled by iconic songs from Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Alanis Morissette.
The production enjoyed a sold-out run in Hollywood and is now poised to captivate UK audiences with its unique blend of pop music and heartfelt storytelling. The show is produced by Bradley Bredeweg—who also serves as its writer and director—alongside Kelley Parker and Brian Pendleton, with pop-culture icons Lance Bass and Michelle Visage joining as co-producers.
Michelle Visage, known for her charisma and outspoken style, described Scissorhandz as “a celebration of life and individuality,” hinting at a lively experience both on and off stage. “We’re not just creating a show; we’re creating a movement,” Visage said. “You know I’ll be throwing some fabulous parties during the run—I mean, what’s a Michelle Visage production without a little sparkle and sass? Get ready, because it’s going to be an unforgettable ride!”
The story behind Scissorhandz draws inspiration from the experience of those who feel like outsiders. Bredeweg shared, “As a lonely quirky gay kid growing up in the 80s and 90s, this film meant the world to me because it spoke to anyone who felt like they didn’t quite fit in. That spirit of celebrating the weird and wonderful is at the core of Scissorhandz — a tribute musical and a parody all rolled into one.”
The production is brought to life by a talented creative team, with choreography by Alexzandra Sarmiento, musical direction by Gregory Nabours, set design by James Pearse Connelly, costume design by Abby Clarke, lighting design by Adam King, and sound design by Yvonne Gilbert. Harry Blumenau Casting handles casting, with James Anderton overseeing production management and Wildpark Entertainment managing general operations.
With a soundtrack featuring some of the biggest pop anthems of recent decades, Scissorhandz: A Musical Reinvented is anticipated to be both a nostalgic tribute and a fresh reimagining of the beloved Tim Burton classic.
