Ruth Jones to Make West End Debut in Sister Act at Dominion Theatre
The Dominion Theatre is set to welcome Ruth Jones to the cast of ‘Sister Act’ in the West End, where she will assume the role of Mother Superior in the 2024 production.
The show, also featuring Beverley Knight and Alexandra Burke, will run from 15 March to 31 August 2024. ‘Sister Act’ tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a musician who goes into hiding in a convent after witnessing a crime.
Beverley Knight will portray her character from opening day until 8 June, followed by Alexandra Burke, who will continue in the role through to the end of August. Burke is known for her portrayal of Deloris in the 2016 tour of the musical.
Jones, who gained prominence through her work on ‘Gavin and Stacey,’ will be making her West End debut with this performance, which is part of a career that includes both writing and acting for the stage. She is set to perform until 8 June, with additional casting to be announced in due course.
Jones is also scheduled to appear in the role at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin, giving performances from 13 to 24 February 2024, before her stint in London.
‘Sister Act’ features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a script by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, with Douglas Carter Beane providing extra material. The production includes Bill Buckhurst as director, choreography by Alistair David, and design by Morgan Large, with musical direction by Neil MacDonald, lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound by Tom Marshall, and musical supervision by Stephen Brooker.
