Patrick Page Withdraws from West End ‘Hadestown’ Reunion, Will Return for Live Capture

Tony-nominated actor Patrick Page, best known for his portrayal of Hades in Broadway’s Tony-winning Hadestown, has withdrawn from the show’s monthlong reunion engagement in London due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. Despite his injury, Page confirmed via Instagram that he will still participate in the musical’s planned pro-shot filming at the end of February.

“Bad news first: my injury is a full rupture of the Achilles tendon,” Page wrote, explaining that he will be unable to perform in the West End run. His role will be taken over by Phillip Boykin. Page added, however, that he will return to the stage for the live-audience capture performances on February 28 and March 1, before traveling back to New York for surgery.

The live taping brings together the musical’s original Broadway cast—Reeve Carney (Orpheus), André De Shields(Hermes), Amber Gray (Persephone), Eva Noblezada (Eurydice), and Page—as they reunite at London’s Lyric Theatre. The production, featuring music by Anaïs Mitchell and based on the Orpheus myth, first opened on Broadway in April 2019.

The currently running West End version of Hadestown opened to critical acclaim last February and is produced by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, Tom Kirdahy, and the National Theatre in association with JAS Theatricals. The reunion cast’s appearance is supported by Equity UK, pursuant to an exchange program with American Equity.
