Paramount Players Reveals Trailer for MEAN GIRLS Musical Adaptation Slated for 2024 Release

Paramount Players has unveiled the highly-anticipated trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of the ‘Mean Girls’ musical, with an official release date set for January 12, 2024.

This eagerly awaited movie, which has its roots in a novel, pays homage to its origins by transforming the acclaimed Broadway musical itself an adaptation of the original film into a cinematic experience. The trailer offers a glimpse of the production, surprisingly set to the tune of Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Get Him Back’ rather than showcasing the movie’s original score.

Angourie Rice, known for her role in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ will bring the character of Cady to life, while Auli’i Cravalho will step into the shoes of Janice, and Jaquel Spivey will take on the role of Damian. Notably, Tina Fey and Tim Meadows will reprise their roles from the original film as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duval, respectively. Renée Rapp graduates from the Broadway stage to the silver screen, continuing her portrayal of the quintessential Regina George.

They will be joined by a talented supporting cast, including Avantika as Karen and Bebe Wood as Gretchen, completing the notorious trio of ‘Plastics’ alongside Rapp. Christopher Briney is set to charm as Aaron, Jenna Fischer will portray Cady’s mother, and Busy Philips is cast as Regina’s mother, a role made famous by Amy Poehler. The ensemble is further bolstered by the talents of Ashley Park and Jon Hamm.

The directorial reins of this feature film debut are held by the married team of Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne, known for their innovative work across film, music videos, and television, including the acclaimed ‘Quarter Life Poetry.’

Lorne Michaels and Tina Fey are producing the film, with Fey also responsible for the screenplay. The music and choreography, critical elements of this musical, are being handled by Jeff Richmond and Kyle Hanagami, respectively.

Anticipation is building for this new rendition of ‘Mean Girls,’ promising to deliver a fresh yet faithful take on the beloved story.
