Mia Carragher Cast as Katniss Everdeen in ‘The Hunger Games: On Stage’

London audiences will soon see a new tribute take the spotlight. Producers of The Hunger Games: On Stage have chosen rising British actor Mia Carragher to portray Katniss Everdeen when the production opens at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre on 20 October.

Carragher, 20, steps into the role originated on screen by Jennifer Lawrence. In a social media announcement the Liverpool native demonstrated her archery skills and spoke about relating to Katniss’s blend of fearlessness and compassion. The show’s creative team says the stage adaptation will blend dramatic storytelling with immersive design elements to bring Suzanne Collins’s dystopian world of Panem to life.

A football legacy meets the arena

Carragher is the daughter of former Liverpool defender and football analyst Jamie Carragher, who shared his excitement on Instagram. The young performer’s previous credits include the British film One Night in Istanbul and Channel 4’s recent thriller series The Gathering. She will also appear opposite original film franchise star Josh Hutcherson in the upcoming comedy Let’s Love.

From page to stage

The Hunger Games follows sixteen year old Katniss, who volunteers to replace her sister Prim in the Capitol’s deadly televised tournament. As she fights to survive Katniss transforms into a beacon of resistance against an oppressive regime. The stage version promises fresh perspectives on the story while retaining key plot points that captivated readers and filmgoers.

Production outlook

Previews begin in early October with an official press night later that month. Additional casting, creative team announcements and ticket information are expected in the coming weeks. With a new Katniss at the helm and a built in global fan base, the production is poised to become one of the most talked about events of London’s autumn theatre season.
