Lindsay Lohan, renowned for her role as Cady Heron in the 2004 hit comedy ‘Mean Girls’, has expressed her disappointment over a joke made in the latest musical adaptation of the movie. Despite making a cameo appearance in the new adaptation, Lohan’s representatives have informed that the actress was “very hurt” by a particular gag included in the film.
This new adaptation of ‘Mean Girls’, envisioned for contemporary audiences, was penned by Tina Fey, who also wrote and co-starred in the original film. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Fey discussed the need to modernize the humor to suit today’s sensibilities. “I was writing in the early 2000s based on my teen experience in the late ’80s,” she said. “It’s no surprise that jokes have changed… I believe in finding new ways to do jokes with less accidental shrapnel sideways.”
In the movie musical, Lohan’s cameo occurs towards the end of the film, where she plays the moderator at a Mathlete competition attended by Cady, portrayed by Angourie Rice. Fey, speaking with Entertainment Weekly, shared her thoughts on Lohan’s role, noting that she was the ideal choice for a surprise cameo. “I wanted to include something unexpected,” Fey remarked. “It also allows her to be portrayed as smart, which aligns with Cady’s character.”
Following the on-set reunion, Fey and Lohan also met at the film’s premiere in New York City on January 8. Despite the controversy surrounding the joke, Lohan’s involvement in the film was a significant nod to her enduring connection to the original ‘Mean Girls’.
