Jason Donovan to Star in ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ at the West End

This September, the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End will feature a limited two-week engagement of ‘The Rocky Horror Show,’ starring Australian actor and singer Jason Donovan as the flamboyant Dr. Frank ‘n’ Furter. This marks Donovan’s debut in the iconic role in the UK, a role he last played in Sydney in 2023.

Donovan, renowned for his performances in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,’ ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert,’ and ‘Grease,’ expressed his enthusiasm about the role, stating, “I am thrilled to dive into the exhilarating role of Frank ‘n’ Furter with a fantastic new cast and Timewarp with audiences throughout the UK. We promise to deliver the freshest Rocky EVER, that audiences will not forget. So, buckle up, as the show promises to be a wild and wicked ride!”

‘The Rocky Horror Show,’ first performed in June 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre, has been a global phenomenon, seen by over 30 million people in more than 30 countries and translated into 20 languages. The musical includes hits such as ‘Sweet Transvestite,’ ‘Science Fiction/Double Feature,’ ‘Dammit Janet,’ and ‘The Time-Warp,’ and tells the story of college sweethearts Brad and Janet who find themselves at a strange mansion after their car breaks down, leading to a night of unforgettable adventures.

Directed by Christopher Luscombe, the production will commence its West End run from September 6 to 20, following performances in Bromley and High Wycombe in August. The tour will continue across the UK, including stops in Fareham, Bath, York, Glasgow, Cardiff, Blackpool, Sheffield, Edinburgh, and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, culminating with a holiday season run in Liverpool from December 3 to January 4.

Further casting details for the production will be announced soon. It is noted that Donovan will not appear in performances in Malvern, Woking, and Liverpool, as well as on select dates in August, October, and November.
