The Tony-nominated musical “Girl From the North Country,” which features an all-Bob Dylan soundtrack, is being adapted into a film. Conor McPherson, who wrote and directed the musical, will also write and direct the movie, which will star Chlöe Bailey, Olivia Colman, and Woody Harrelson took on the roles previously portrayed on Broadway by Kimber Elayne Sprawl, Mare Winningham, and Jay O. Sanders.
The movie, backed by Blueprint Pictures, will tell the story of a group of traveler’s whose lives intersect in a Duluth, Minnesota guesthouse during the Great Depression. The musical had its premiere in London before moving to New York’s Broadway, where it played for 206 performances and earned seven Tony nominations, including a win for Best Orchestration.
Producers Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin will lead the film adaptation, while the involvement of the original Broadway producers, Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment, is yet to be announced.
