Giant Announces Additional Casting for West End Transfer, Starring John Lithgow and Elliot Levey

LOS ANGELES – AUG 2: John Lithgow at the “The Campaign” Premiere at the TCL Chinese Theater IMAX on August 2, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA

The highly anticipated West End transfer of Giant, Mark Rosenblatt’s powerful drama about Roald Dahl, has revealed additional casting for its spring 2025 run at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Following a sold-out season at the Royal Court Theatre, the play is set to explore the dramatic fallout of Dahl’s controversial antisemitic remarks, set against the backdrop of his 1983 life.

As previously announced, two-time Tony Award winner John Lithgow will reprise his acclaimed role as the famous author Roald Dahl, bringing his formidable stage presence to the character once more. Lithgow, known for his television roles in The Crown and 3rd Rock from the Sun, is joined by Elliot Levey, who returns as Tom Maschler, Dahl’s publisher and confidant.

Joining the cast in exciting new roles are Rachael Stirling, known for her work in The Divine Mrs. S, and Richard Hope, who recently appeared in Hijack. Stirling will play Felicity Crosland, and Hope will portray Wally Saunders. These seasoned actors, both returning from the Royal Court production, add depth and nuance to the already exceptional cast.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the production explores a pivotal moment in Dahl’s life, as he grapples with the consequences of his public rhetoric while his new book The Witches nears publication. The play delves into themes of accountability and the lasting impact of antisemitism, providing a thought-provoking examination of the complexities of Dahl’s character during a turbulent period.

The production will feature the striking set design of Bob Crowley, lighting design by Anna Watson, and sound design by Alexandra Faye Braithwaite, all contributing to the immersive atmosphere of the play. The casting is managed by Arthur Carrington, ensuring a top-tier ensemble for this thought-provoking drama.

Giant will run at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 26 April to 2 August 2025, with an official opening night on 1 May. Produced by Brian and Dayna Lee, Stephanie Kramer and Nicole Kramer, Josh Fiedler, and Robyn Goodman, the West End production is set to offer a gripping, emotionally charged theatrical experience. Tickets for the highly anticipated show are now on sale, with audiences eagerly awaiting the opportunity to witness this powerful portrayal of a literary legend at a crossroads.
