Frozen Stage Musical Film to Debut on Disney Plus
Fans of Frozen are in for a treat as Disney has announced that the stage musical adaptation of the beloved film will be released on Disney Plus. The news was revealed during the D23 Expo, drawing parallels to the streaming release of Hamilton.
The musical, based on the iconic Disney film that celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, follows the journey of two sisters dealing with the loss of their parents and the challenges posed by the elder sister’s ice powers. With music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, a book by Jennifer Lee, and direction by Michael Grandage, the stage production has captivated audiences since its debut.
After opening in the West End in 2021, following a successful Broadway run and North American tour, the show was recorded earlier this year at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The film version is set to premiere on Disney Plus in 2025, with exact dates yet to be announced.
The current cast includes Samantha Barks as Elsa, Laura Dawkes as Anna, Jammy Kasongo as Kristoff, Craig Gallivan as Olaf, Oliver Ormson as Hans, and Richard Frame as the Duke of Weselton. Sven will be portrayed by Mikayla Jade and Ashley Birchall on alternating nights.
During the D23 keynote, Samantha Barks delivered a powerful performance of “Let It Go,” adding to the excitement surrounding the film’s release.
The ensemble cast features a talented lineup, including Rhianne Alleyne, Marianne Bardgett, Rebecca Botterill, Gabrielle Cocca, and many others who bring the magical world of Frozen to life on stage.
With its release on Disney Plus, the Frozen stage musical will be accessible to an even wider audience, allowing fans to experience the magic from the comfort of their homes.
