Eva’s Legacy Returns: Ariana DeBose in Talks to Star in Evita Revival at London Palladium

Hold onto your tango shoes, theatre lovers! Ariana DeBose, the Oscar-winning star of West Side Story, is in talks to take on the role of Eva Perón in the highly anticipated revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita. The production is set to dazzle audiences at the iconic London Palladium from June 14 to September 6, 2025. Directed by the visionary Jamie Lloyd, this new iteration of Evita promises to reimagine the iconic story for a contemporary audience.

DeBose spilled the beans to Deadline, saying,

If you’re going to do a revival of a property that is well known and well-loved, it’s paramount to have a new vision, a new way in for today’s audiences.” And what’s her vision? A deeper exploration of Eva Perón as a real, complex woman: “A lot is said about women from the male gaze. We should ask ourselves what expectations do we hold them to and what fables, tales, and truths do we tell ourselves about who we believe them to be, and who are they actually?

Evita is no stranger to the spotlight. With a powerhouse score featuring timeless hits like Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Oh What A Circus, and You Must Love Me, the musical has captured hearts since its West End debut in 1978. But under Jamie Lloyd’s direction, this revival promises a fresh perspective on Eva Perón’s journey from poverty to becoming the most powerful woman in Latin America—a beacon of hope, a divisive figure, and a force to be reckoned with.

Lloyd, known for his edgy reimaginings of classics, first directed Evita to critical acclaim at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2019. With DeBose potentially leading the charge, this revival is shaping up to be a must-see theatrical event.

The Legacy of Eva Perón

Eva Perón’s story is one of ambition, passion, and complexity. Rising from humble beginnings, she became a beloved yet polarizing figure in Argentina, capturing the hearts of millions while dividing opinions. Her life’s tale is brought to vivid life in Evita, blending political drama with emotional depth and a soundtrack that stays with you long after the curtain falls.

A Role for the Ages

The role of Eva Perón has been played by some of the most iconic names in theatr and film, including Elaine Paige, Patti LuPone, Elena Roger, and, of course, Madonna in the 1996 film adaptation. If DeBose steps into Eva’s shoes, she’ll be joining an elite group of performers who’ve brought the Argentine icon to life.

A New Vision for a New Era

With Ariana DeBose at the helm, a director as innovative as Jamie Lloyd, and an iconic score that remains as powerful as ever, this Evita revival promises to be a thrilling exploration of power, gender, and legacy.

Mark your calendars, book your tickets, and prepare for a dazzling night at the London Palladium. As Eva herself would say, You must love me. And with a production like this, how could we not?
