Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin Set to Shine in Broadway’s Cabaret Revival

New York, NY – The highly anticipated revival of Cabaret, helmed by director Rebecca Frecknall, is already generating excitement with its star-studded casting announcement. Set to grace the Broadway stage in the spring of 2024 at the renowned August Wilson Theatre, this production will feature the formidable talents of Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin in the leading roles.

Eddie Redmayne, celebrated for his Olivier Award-winning portrayal of the Emcee, is all set to reprise this iconic character, which he originally brought to life in the West End production. Joining him is the versatile Gayle Rankin, known for her upcoming role in House of the Dragon, as well as her previous credits in Glow. Rankin, who previously appeared in the 2014 Broadway revival as Fraulein Kost, will now step into the spotlight as Sally Bowles.

Cabaret, a production that ingeniously transformed London’s Playhouse Theatre into the immersive cabaret venue known as the Kit Kat Club, achieved an impressive feat by winning seven Olivier Awards in 2022. The New York adaptation aims to replicate this immersive experience by converting the August Wilson Theatre into a Kit Kat Club. Mark your calendars for the grand opening on April 1, 2024, with gala evenings on April 20 and 21.

Under the expert direction of Rebecca Frecknall, the John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff masterpiece, inspired by John Van Druten’s play, “I Am a Camera,” and Christopher Isherwood’s Berlin Stories, promises to deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience. The creative team includes talents such as club, scenic, and costume designer Tom Scutt, lighting designer Isabelle Byrd, sound designer Nick Lidster, choreographer Julia Cheng, musical supervisor Jennifer Whyte, assistant director/prologue director Jordan Fein, and prologue composer/musical director Angus MacRae.

Tom Scutt, the set designer, shared his vision, saying, “The Kit Kat Club at the August Wilson will be an exciting evolution of our Cabaret production. Drawing inspiration from 1920s Germany, 2020s London, and the art deco architecture of New York, we aim to create a unique and captivating theatrical experience with Cabaret NYC.”

Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin are scheduled for a limited engagement until August 31, with Redmayne’s absence on Monday evenings and Rankin’s on Wednesday matinees starting June 17.

Stay tuned for further casting announcements as Cabaret prepares to dazzle Broadway audiences with its exceptional ensemble cast.
