Danny Burstein to Star Opposite Audra McDonald in Gypsy on Broadway

Tony Award winner Danny Burstein is set to play Herbie alongside six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald in the upcoming Broadway revival of Gypsy. Directed by George C. Wolfe and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, the production will reopen the iconic Majestic Theatre, with previews beginning on November 21 and an official opening night scheduled for December 19.

Gypsy, with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is a classic musical that tells the story of famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee and her complicated relationship with her domineering mother, Rose. The show originally premiered on Broadway in 1959 with Ethel Merman in the lead role, and has since seen several acclaimed revivals featuring legendary performances by Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters, and Patti LuPone as Rose.

McDonald, widely regarded for her powerhouse performances, reunites with Wolfe after their collaboration on the 2016 musical Shuffle Along, Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed. Burstein, a seasoned Broadway star, returns to the stage following his Tony-winning performance as Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Further casting for the production will be announced in the coming weeks as anticipation builds for one of the most highly anticipated revivals of the season.
