Hulu has announced the official trailer of We Are Freestyle Love Supreme, an indie documentary which had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival at the start of this year. Before Hamilton and In The Heights, Lin-Manuel Miranda joined Thomas Kail and Anthony Veneziale’s hip hop improv show that had its debut at the Booth Theatre in Broadway last year.
The documentary chronicles a 15 year journey leading up to the release of shows in 2019.
Miranda wrote the music and lyrics for In The Heights which opened on Broadway in 2008. The production went on to be made into a film which is scheduled for a 2021 release. Manuel’s work won the Tony Award for Best Original Score and the cast album won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album and the show won the Tony Award for Best Musical.
Miranda shot to musical theatre stardom after writing the music, lyrics and script for pop culture phenomenon hit Hamilton which premiered on Broadway in 2015. Hamilton won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for a record 16 Tony Awards winning the coveted triple crown for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book.
Hamilton is set to open at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in March 2021.
