Broadway’s Gypsy Cancels Performances as Illnesses Impact Cast

The latest revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Gypsy on Broadway has canceled both its Thursday performances due to widespread illnesses within the company. The production, which stars six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, announced the cancellations on social media just hours before the scheduled curtain times.

The first cancellation came early Thursday afternoon, with the show calling off its 2:00 p.m. matinee performance. A statement posted on social media apologised for the inconvenience and advised ticket holders to check with their point of purchase for refunds or exchanges. Later in the evening, less than two hours before the 7:30 p.m. performance, the production announced it would also be canceling the night’s show due to the continued impact of illness.

This marks a challenging week for the Gypsy company, which also canceled performances on Monday and Wednesday for similar reasons. The production team has yet to confirm whether Friday evening’s 7:00 p.m. show will proceed as planned, stating that updates will be provided as they become available.

The revival, which opened on December 19 at the Majestic Theatre on 44th Street, features a high-profile cast including Audra McDonald as Rose, Danny Burstein, Joy Woods, and Jordan Tyson. Despite strong reviews following its recent debut, the string of cancellations has left audiences uncertain about the show’s immediate schedule.

Fans and ticket holders are encouraged to monitor the production’s social media channels for the latest updates regarding upcoming performances.
