In a move that is set to delight theatre enthusiasts, the popular Broadway musical ‘Shucked’ is poised for a transition to the silver screen. The announcement came as a pleasant surprise following the musical’s final performance at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City on April 4, 2023.
Producer Mike Bosner, sharing the news with the audience, expressed a mixture of emotions. “While it’s bittersweet to bid farewell to the stage production, the journey of ‘Shucked’ is far from over,” Bosner revealed. The show’s Instagram account echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude towards the Broadway community and its fans, affectionately dubbed #MotherShuckers.
PEOPLE magazine has confirmed that the screenplay for the film will be penned by Robert Horn, who was responsible for the musical’s book. The creative duo of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, lauded for their work on the original musical score and lyrics, will also contribute to the film adaptation.
The production team for the movie boasts notable names, including Jason Michael Berman and Jordan Moldo of Mandalay Pictures, and Alan Fox. Alongside them, executive producers will include Horn, Clark, McAnally, and Jack O’Brien, who directed the Broadway show.

‘Shucked’ opened to critical acclaim at the Nederlander Theatre and has since captivated audiences with its story set in fictional Cobb County, where a mysterious crisis threatens the corn crops. The musical’s star, Alex Newell, clinched a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role, and the show received nominations for Best Musical among other accolades.
The musical’s legacy will continue with a North American tour commencing this fall in Nashville. Further extending its global reach, ‘Shucked’ is scheduled to premiere in London in 2025, and plans for a Spring 2026 Australian production are also underway.
