Entertainment One will produce a professionally shot (pro-shot) recording of Come From Away, reuniting members of the original Broadway production.
The show is set to be filmed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, where it opened in 2017 and played until the forced COVID-19 shutdown.
Come From Away follows the incredible real-life journey of 7,000 air passengers who became grounded in Gander, Newfoundland in Canada in the wake of the September 11 tragedy. The small community that welcomed the ‘come from aways’ into their lives provided hope and compassion to those in need. Award-winning husband and wife duo David Hein and Irene Sankoff (book, music and lyrics), travelled to Newfoundland and interviewed thousands of locals, compiling their stories to share with the world.
The Australian production, currently in Melbourne, is the only production of Come From Away playing in the world. Pre-COVID, it could be seen in New York, London, Toronto, and on a U.S. Tour.
Christopher Ashley, who won a Tony Award for his work on the original production, will return as director. The production is set to be filmed by RadicalMedia, who were responsible for the recordings of Hamilton (Disney+) and American Utopia (HBO).
The show is predicted to be released in September. Exact casting has not been confirmed.
