Beetlejuice The Musical has made absolute waves on the Broadway scene.
With music and lyrics by Australia’s own Eddie Perfect, the show is a musical adaptation of Tim Burton’s 1988 cult film.
Despite opening to a poor response, the show has just wrapped up its highest weekly earnings ($1.48 million). Although it’s not overtaking Broadway giant Hamilton, the crazy spike in ticket sales and interest has definitely proved unusual.
In combination with smart marketing and using Social Media outlets like TikTok and Youtube, Beetlejuice has begun amassing a huge following. The Broadway Cast Recording has received 100 million streams in 21 weeks – which is faster than Dear Evan Hansen and Mean Girls, and only just behind Hamilton‘s 18 week rise.
Mark Kaufman, one of the show’s producers and the executive VP of Warner Brothers Theatre Ventures said that discussions are already underway about launching productions in London’s West End and in Australia, and a U.S. national tour is in the works.
