Ariana Grande’s Enchanting Evening: From Broadway Beginnings to ‘& Juliet’s’ Luminous Lights
In a delightful twist, Ariana Grande returned to her theatrical beginnings this past weekend. Before she rocketed to global stardom with her sensational music career, the 30-year-old artist first graced the Broadway stage in Jason Robert Brown’s 2008 production, ’13’. This Saturday, however, Grande took a seat at the esteemed Stephen Sondheim Theatre to immerse herself in the Tony-nominated sensation, ‘& Juliet’.
This isn’t just any musical for Grande, as it holds a personal connection. ‘& Juliet’ poses a riveting question: “What would’ve happened had Juliet not met her tragic fate at the end of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo & Juliet’?” The musical answers this using a series of pop anthems, notably including Grande’s ‘Problem’ and ‘Break Free’. All these iconic tracks hail from the repertoire of the five-time Grammy-winning maestro, Max Martin. Martin, who was also in attendance with Grande, shared the experience of watching their collaborative hits come to life on stage.
