Apple TV Plus set to release live recording of Come From Away

Apple TV Plus is following in the footsteps of Disney + streaming services by securing the rights to the live stage recording of the hit Broadway musical production of Come From Away. Apple Original Films have been actively looking to expand their portfolio, of streaming content, in an attempt to capture market share from the likes of Netflix, Disney and Stan.

With COVID-19 ushering a complete blackout of New York’s theatre scene, this new filmed production will employ over 200 creative and crew. The recording is set to take place at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and is expected to feature the cast from the original Broadway production.

Come From Away is originally a Canadian musical which depicts the chain of events following the September 11th attacks in New York City. It highlights the unity and compassion of the people from Gander, a small town on the east coast of Canada’s Newfoundland province. It opened on Broadway in 2017 and received seven Tony nominations, including best musical.

Following in the success of Hamilton’s live recording on Disney +, and the upcoming release of ‘Diana a new musical’ on Netflix, audiences will continue to get their theatre fix from the comfort of their homes.
