Andrew Lloyd Webber raises half a million dollars for the Actor’s Fund

With COVID-19 enforced lockdowns keeping theatres dark across the globe, institutions such as the National Theatre, Metropolitan Opera and the composer’s of Really Useful Group have been providing recorded versions of their stage shows online to keep the ghost lights glowing.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has been streaming one of his musicals online for 48 hours each week for the past six weeks. Lloyd Webber has presented some of his greatest hits including Love Never Dies, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and By Jeeves to name a few. Appearing on a live YouTube chat last night he said “Thank you for so generously donating, we’ve raised half a million dollars for the Actor’s Fund.”

“I hope you realise that theatre will always be there. It will come back. I didn’t think we’d be locked down for so long, I’m afraid it might be a bit longer yet. But you can’t get rid of me – I’ll be back doing various things, maybe I’ll do a little bit from my new Cinderella. Thank you for watching, particularly those of you that got through By Jeeves.

“Goodbye, give generously and thank you.”
