Andrew Lloyd Webber eyes Nicole Scherzinger for SUNSET BOULEVARD film

Andrew Lloyd Webber is reportedly keen for Nicole Scherzinger to reprise Norma Desmond on the big screen, following her acclaimed run in the revival of SUNSET BOULEVARD in London and New York. Reports suggest momentum from the Broadway engagement has renewed talks about a feature adaptation, with Webber said to favour Scherzinger for the lead.

Scherzinger has already signalled interest. Asked about a film earlier this year, she said there had been conversations and that bringing Norma to cinema was her dream.

The performer’s credentials for the role are formidable. SUNSET BOULEVARD dominated the 2024 Olivier Awards, with Nicole Scherzinger winning Best Actress, Jamie Lloyd taking Best Director and the show named Best Musical Revival. In 2025, the Broadway transfer won Best Revival of a Musical at the Tony Awards, with Scherzinger taking Best Leading Actress. She concluded her Broadway run in July 2025 at the St James Theatre.

A SUNSET BOULEVARD film has been discussed for years, with Webber noting that he has long wanted to see a screen version of the stage musical. No studio, director or production timeline has been announced, and any project remains unconfirmed.

If the adaptation moves ahead with Scherzinger, the team behind the hit revival will be hoping to repeat the awards success that greeted CHICAGO and LES MISÉRABLES at the Oscars. For now, fans will be watching to see whether Norma Desmond is ready for her close up on film at last.
