Enter our competition to win one of 10 double passes to Sydney Theatre Company’s Romeo and Juliet and find out!
Romeo and Juliet has become the love story against which all others are measured and the story of two young lovers who were doomed by fate is certainly a familiar tale. But this is a play that needs to be approached with fresh eyes.
Seen through a modern-day lens, this stylish interpretation by director Kip Williams (STC’s Under Milkwood) examines how the two lovers seek authenticity and liberation through their relationship, as Juliet struggles to avoid the inevitability of suffocating in her mother’s footsteps and becoming the next Lady Capulet.
Swapping Elizabethan frills and frippery for chic contemporary fashions, this re-imagining sees the ideals of the young pair smash up against their families’ expectations with razor-sharp clarity and heartbreaking results.
Born into a suffocating world of wealth, excess and opulence, Juliet and Romeo seek to escape the family ties that entrap them, in search of authentic life experience.
