AussieTheatre has Two double passes to giveaway to Robyn Archer: Dancing on the Volcano at the City Recital Hall on Wednesday 22 August.
There was a moment in Germany, between the two great world wars, when cabaret came alive. For just over ten years songwriters and poets described it as ‘dancing on a volcano’, which then exploded so rapidly into the worst excesses of Nazism.
Many think only of Brecht and Weill, but there were so many more songwriters and poets. This show gives us a hearty dose of Brecht and Eisler, but also Friedrich Hollaender (Falling in Love Again), Wilhelm Grosz (Red Sails in the Sunset), Kurt Tucholsky, Frank Wedekind, Mischa Spoliansky and more.
Teaming up again with longtime musical collaborators, Michael Morley (piano) and George Butrumlis (accordion), Robyn offers a truly authentic interpretation of this repertoire – raucous, funny, steeped in the musical harmony and political discord of the times, and often frighteningly relevant to our twenty-first century world.
Competition closes on 19 August 2018 at 6pm AEST. Winners will be contacted via email/phone.
