The Sorry Mum Project & Let Me Know When You Get Home

AussieTheatre has a double pass to giveaway to Double Bill: The Sorry Mum Project & Let Me Know When You Get Home at the Lennox Theatre in Parramatta, Sydney on Friday 19th March 2021 @ 7:00pm.

Let Me Know When You Get Home, a new play about growing up queer in Western Sydney, will premiere as part of Launchpad, presented by Riverside Theatre’s National Theatre of Parramatta, in association with CuriousWorks.

Set in the backdrop of Mardi Gras and post-high school/ pre-adult life, Let Me Know When You Get Home is a celebration of queer friendship, community and radical optimism. It follows Val, a seventeen-year-old Filipino who’s anxious to leave her traditional home in Fairfield and start her life as a queer adult. Though the show is specifically Western Sydney, the myth it interrogates is familiar to any lonely LGBTI+ person; if you want to be accepted, you have to leave your hometown and move to the big city, whether it’s Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco, or some other supposed LGBTQI+ utopia.

Let Me Know When You Get Home is a world premiere production, presented by Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta in association with CuriousWorks. It was written by Miranda Aguilar, and directed by Valerie Berry (Swallow, Double Delicious) in her directorial debut.

It is the first full-length play from Miranda Aguilar. It was largely inspired by their own experiences with queer suburban isolation, Filipino/a/x diasporic identity, and living and working in Western Sydney, particularly in the wake of the 2017 postal plebiscite results.

Competition closes Sunday 14th March 2021 at 6pm AEST. Winners will be contacted via email/phone.
