2016 marks the 60th anniversary of My Fair Lady, Lerner and Loewe’s celebrated musical based on the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw.
Opera Australia and John Frost have brought Dame Julie Andrews – the original Eliza Dootlittle herself – to Sydney to direct a new production which pays homage to the original 1956 work, featuring Oliver Smith’s original set design and Cecil Beaton’s costume design from the Broadway production. Tony Award winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli has created the staging and choreography and Guy Simpson is musical director.
The production opens next Tuesday (September 6) at Sydney Opera House’s Joan Sutherland Theatre and the cast treated media to a sneak peek of the production in a special media call yesterday.
