A Quick Chat With Josh Mitchell…

First Date1. Have you ever been involved with Short and Sweet before, or are you a S+S virgin?
No we have well and truly been around the Short and Sweet block- we performed in Short and Sweet Cabaret last year and have performed in the last 3 Short and Sweet Dance festivals.
2. What do you love about the Short and Sweet Cabaret Festival?
It is a great chance to try out new ideas and find out just what exactly this whole cabaret thingy is all about.
3. Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Being from a dance background we spend a lot of time doing odd stretches on the floor. This was ok in Short and Sweet dance but we look a little out of place backstage at SS Cabaret.
4. What do you love about cabaret?
I think my favourite thing in cabaret is the moment when for some reason or another the performer decides that ‘you know what, I just can no longer communicate my objective without a melody line.’ I think this should happen more in real life.
5. Is life a cabaret old Chum?
See above answer. ie yes I think it should be.
6. The premise of Short and Sweet Cabaret is to present 10 minute works. Do you think your show will become a longer cabaret piece eventually, or does it work best as a short piece?
I think this particular piece is probably best as a 10 minute piece.  Either that or….have you seen Ben Hur?
7. What do you hope to gain from this Short and Sweet experience?
Just a chance to groove around like a 60’s Dad. On stage. That’s all I ever want.  8. How do you have your coffee?
With added herbal tea.
9. What’s the best Pizza Topping?
Hawaiian. Or the nacho pizza from Mojos.
10. What’s your favourite place in Melbourne?
Some guy showed me a bar called Pony Fish island, that was pretty cool.
