CATS pounces on Melbourne – Photo Feature

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical CATS is all set to pounce on Melbourne this weekend, commencing shows at the Regent Theatre tonight with an official gala opening scheduled for Sunday 20 December.

The ensemble cast features 30 of Australia’s most talented triple threat performers and stars pop sensation Delta Goodrem in her first musical theatre role: Grizabella the Glamour Cat.

The current revival of CATS was reworked recently for its latest West End season by the original creative team – Director Trevor Nunn, Choreographer & Associate Director Gillian Lynne, Set Designer John Napier and Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber – and now features a brand new tap routine for Jennyanydots (and her beetles), a brand new Growltiger sequence and a complete revamp of the Rum Tum Tugger number. This Australian production is lovingly recreated by Associate Director and Choreographer Joanne Robinson with musical direction by Paul White.

Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger-than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.
