A Quick Chat With Trevor Ashley

We catch up with Trevor Ashley, a mainstay Sydney performer and the producer of the hit cabaret night Showqueen Sundays.

Trevor AshleyAs a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?   
Maria in the The Sound Of Music. Seriously. 

Who is the most important person in the world to you?   
It’s hard to name just one. My friends definitely, especially Bev Kennedy. She’s my rock.  

What animal best represents you and why?   
A galah. I think it’s something in the nasal twang.   

If you were a contestant on Deal or No Deal, how much would you need to be on offer before you walked away?   
$10,000  

What’s the worst date you’ve ever had?   
With a boy who revealed that he had a boyfriend already after we went out!  

Windows or MAC?   
Mac, with Windows bootcamp.  

Which Spice Girl was your favourite?   
Ginger. Always loved her!   

Who is the actor you would be most like to work alongside?   
Bette Midler. I’d die.  

What five songs would be the first you put a mix tape?   
Jamie Cullum – ‘Mind Trick’, Bette Midler – ‘Up the Ladder’, Madonna – ‘Vogue’, Lucinda Shaw – ‘When You Think Of Me’, ‘Work’ – Kelly Rowland.   

What is the best thing about theatre in Australia?   
The amazing and talented creative people we have here. I love our community.  

What is the worst thing about theatre in Australia?   
There’s not enough! We all need to help change that!  

Favourite food?   
A Jager Schnitzel from Maggies!

What would you do if you found a wallet on the ground?   
See if the person’s name and address are in there and return it to them or the police.  

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
Ummm…. never had a bad one. Been full time in the industry for 10 years now.

What’s the first website you visit when you come online?   
Facebook. I’m shocking.  

Name one moment when you looked around, breathed happily and felt content   
My Christmas party last year. I had a great 2008 and it was wonderful to share it with my friends.  

Red or white?   
Red, sequin preferably. 

Where is the most interesting place you have travelled?   
I loved Rome! The history is beautiful. I also loved Mykonos.  

Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?   
Elton John. He came to Priscilla. It was a fabulous night.  

Where do you see yourself in five years?   
I will still be performing (hopefully half the year in OZ and half the year OS). I will also have my own production company by then… stay tuned!
