Aaron Copland’s thrilling Sextet started life as his Second Symphony. However, following its premiere, the work was avoided by orchestras due to its complexity. Out of frustration, Copland re-wrote the work for sextet in the hope that more ambitious chamber ensembles would take up the challenge.

This program of music from important American voices presents driving works showcasing the Ensemble as a well-oiled virtuosic machine. Including music from Grammy Award-winning composer Bryce Dessner, Grammy Award nominee Missy Mazzoli, and world premieres by Nico Muhly and Pulitzer Prize finalist Christopher Cerrone.
