A physical, interactive theatre piece exploring how we understand and interact with distance.
If you are far from home, emotionally detached, or close to crisis – it’s distance you fear. If the words are on the tip of your tongue, you’re about to take the leap, or Saturn is returning – we believe you can make the distance.
This global array of artists has been drawn together to talk distance. How do we understand the distance between your experience and mine; between what we say and what we mean; between performer and audience; and between body and music. Through a nonconformist, physical and interactive style of theatre, we will come so close, yet so far, to an answer
In a conversational tone, we offer to you the end (or the beginning?) of a piece of string. By unravelling, cutting, and spiderwebbing, you become the pins in our map as we traverse time and space, self and country, silence and movement. A seemingly endless supply of string will dictate and record our adventure as we travel through a political world where movement is ever more restricted, where truth and reality continue to deviate, and we simultaneously live through and react to events in real time. When it comes to distance, the warping of spacetime is the least of our issues.
An energetic yet melodic performance, it blurs the lines between autobiographical and imaginary, telling tales of when distance broke us and when it made us. It’s experimental, fiery, and stripped back aesthetic leaves nothing to hide behind as we tight rope across genre and medium, tying ourselves in knots, stringing together meaning wherever we can find it.
