Legally Blonde Rehearsals – Week Four

David Harris and the Legally Blonde team wrap up their rehearsals at ABC Studios in preparation for transfer to the Lyric Theatre!

With things ramping up now, leading to our first audience in just a couple of weeks, week four was all about running the show, cleaning up routines and detailing all the scenes. It was also our last week in the ABC rehearsals studios where we have called home the past month and where we have created this wonderful show.

After each run of the show, we had note sessions and then the following day there would be cleaning up and rehearsing selected scenes and routines to add more layers and to tighten up the show before another run the following day. More and more guests came in to watch the runs throughout the week, from producers, ticketing, the Lyric Theatre, sound and lighting departments.

On Thursday night Erika, Lucy, Helen, Cameron, Rob and myself, along with Chloe, Ash, Renee (our PMS girls – Pilar, Margo and Serena) and Elenoa headed to the Queen Victoria Building in the city for our first outing together. With Cameron hosting the night, we all had a chance to say G’day to the excited crowd and have a brief chat before Lucy and the girls performed a couple of numbers from the show. It was great to see so many people turn up to come and meet us while also seeing some familiar fans who continue to support us.

[pull_left]A dry tech is when the crew and creatives go through every scene change, moving the set from one scene to the next as it will happen during the actual show[/pull_left]In the name of Vogue Fashion Week, I decided to sport a bow tie that Millsy had convinced me was “fashionable”. Now, I am not normally a bow tie wearing kinda guy, nor very fashionable for that matter, but I had a few good comments, so who knows, I may just have to head out and buy a few bow ties now. Rob promised to take me shopping so it was very much art imitating life as Emmett needs a bit of help in the fashion department too. Typecasting?

This week saw the completion of the set being bumped into the theatre and a “Dry Tech” being performed. A dry tech is when the crew and creatives go through every scene change, moving the set from one scene to the next as it will happen during the actual show. After weeks of hard work by the crew building the sets and bumping them into the theatre, dry tech is the final stage before the cast gets to the theatre and all the technical elements along with cast combine for “Tech Week” – week 5!

We said our final goodbyes to the sanctuary of the rehearsal rooms as it is now time to put our show into the Lyric Theatre!
