‘Hadestown’ Welcomes Kelly Belarmino, KC Dela Cruz and Khori Michelle Petinaud as New Fates

Broadway’s Hadestown has introduced a new trio of Fates, with Kelly Belarmino, KC Dela Cruz and Khori Michelle Petinaud joining the Tony Award-winning musical at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

The performers began their run on Tuesday, July 21, succeeding Jewelle Blackman, Jessie Shelton and Kay Trinidad. The departing trio completed a limited engagement on Sunday, July 19.

The cast change brings performers with a range of Broadway and touring experience into the production. Belarmino previously appeared on Broadway in Pirates! The Penzance Musical, while Dela Cruz performed in the national tour of Hadestown. Petinaud’s Broadway credits include Just in Time, Lempicka, Chicago, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Aladdinand Bob Fosse’s Dancin’.

They join a principal company featuring Gary Dourdan as Hades, Jordan Tyson as Eurydice, J. Harrison Ghee as Hermes, John-Michael Lyles as Orpheus and Grammy Award winner Gaby Moreno as Persephone.

Written by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and developed with director Rachel Chavkin, Hadestown combines the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice with the story of Hades and Persephone. Its score draws on American folk traditions and New Orleans-inspired jazz as the characters travel between the living world and the underworld.

The musical began as an independent theatre project that toured Vermont before Mitchell developed it into an album. It later premiered Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop in 2016, followed by productions in Edmonton and London ahead of its Broadway opening in April 2019.

Hadestown received eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Direction of a Musical. Its other victories included awards for featured actor André De Shields, scenic design, lighting design, sound design and orchestrations.

The production continues its open-ended Broadway run at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York.
