ONE DAY Musical To Transfer To The West End Starring Jamie Muscato And Sharon Rose
ONE DAY is heading to London’s West End, with a new musical adaptation of David Nicholls’ bestselling novel set to open at the Garrick Theatre later this year.
Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose will lead ONE DAY, THE MUSICAL, taking on the central roles of Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley. The characters were recently played on screen by Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod in the hit Netflix series, which introduced the story to a new generation of viewers and sent Nicholls’ 2009 novel back into the bestseller charts.
The musical will begin performances at the Garrick Theatre on 17 November 2026, with the current booking period running through to 14 March 2027.
The story follows Emma and Dexter, who meet on the night of their graduation in Edinburgh in 1988. What begins as one charged evening becomes a decades-long connection, with the pair’s lives revisited on the same date each year as friendship, ambition, heartbreak and missed timing shape their relationship.
The novel has already had a significant screen life. It was adapted into a 2011 film starring Anne Hathaway, before Netflix’s 2024 series brought fresh attention to the material and sparked renewed interest in the original book.
The stage version arrives in the West End following its world premiere at Edinburgh’s Royal Lyceum Theatre earlier this year, where strong demand led to an extension. Its London transfer now places the musical in one of the West End’s most prominent houses.
Muscato brings extensive musical theatre credits to the production, including CABARET, THE GREAT GATSBY, MOULIN ROUGE! THE MUSICAL, LES MISÉRABLES: THE STAGED CONCERT and HEATHERS. Rose has appeared in HAMILTON, SYLVIA, CAROLINE, OR CHANGE, MOTOWN, BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL and SISTER ACT.
The musical features a book by David Greig, with music and lyrics by Abner Ramirez and Amanda Ramirez of the band Johnnyswim. Additional material is by Jeremy Sams, with direction by Max Webster.
The creative team also includes choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, set and costume design by Rae Smith, lighting design by Bruno Poet, sound design by Simon Baker, music supervision, musical direction and co-arrangements by Nigel Lilley, orchestrations and co-arrangements by Simon Hale, and casting by Stuart Burt CDG.
With its blend of romantic nostalgia, bittersweet storytelling and contemporary musical treatment, ONE DAY, THE MUSICAL looks set to become a major West End draw for fans of the novel, the film and the Netflix series alike.
