ANNOUNCING Strut & Fret’s first hospitality venue, INTERMISSION

Located right in front of The West End Electric in Brisbane’s bohemian West End, Intermission is intimate, indulgent and full of old world glamour, with a decadent drinks list and a Spanish and French inspired food menu.

Scott Maidment, Director of Strut & Fret:

We sensed Brisbane’s appetite for more late night programming and eating-out options – Intermission was created with a mind to bring all of this together. Much like La Dolce Vita was the cultural meeting place in the early ‘90s, Intermission can now take up that mantle…with full permission to keep the good vibes rolling.

Baz Luhrmann has already partied at the bar before it officially opens this weekend, so it’s safe to say the vibe is on track.

Intermission will kick things off in style with opening weekend celebrations from Friday 19 – Sunday 21 June. Brisbane revellers can get around DJs from 4pm-late, Encore Hour from 9pm with a $14 menu, and a Sunday Service from 12pm–2pm, serving Bloody Marys, spritzes and traditional empanadas. Guests who pre-book an opening weekend table will also receive complimentary unlimited fries or focaccia.

With a secret door joining the venue to The West End Electric theatre, the bar has a special connection to performance – where you can rub shoulders with international performing artists, chat to your neighbours about the latest musicals and gigs in town or throw caution to the wind and catch a show on a whim.

Cocktails like the Choc Top Martini, Popcorn Sour and Malt-Pleaser celebrate the showtime theme, while bites like burrata, peach and prosciutto loaded crisps, Yarra Valley caviar with potato pavé and sliced to order charcuterie represent a food menu that’s both elevated and relaxed.

With venue design by James Browne (The West End Electric, The Grand Electric, globally touring show sets), Intermission embodies a blend of industrial-chic and inviting warmth.

The venue’s striking gold floor is crafted from hundreds of thousands of hand-thrown gold flakes – offset by a raw, exposed aesthetic with eclectic vintage furnishings, theatre posters and festoon bulbs that pay homage to London’s West End theatre district. There is a heavy influence from the bistros and winebars of Paris with the dark wood panelling and wicker furniture. The live plants, blue walls, outdoor balcony seating and soft white chiffon drapes are a nod to Brisbane’s warm balmy nights.

James:

It’s very much the Strut & Fret style to add layers and hidden discoveries within the overall design, so that each person’s experience is completely unique. And something to remember.

Scott Maidment, the force behind thriving cirque-cabaret-comedy venues The Grand Electric in Sydney, Brisbane’s The West End Electric and the co-presenter of Adelaide Fringe’s The Garden of Unearthly Delights:

With over a dozen theatres and concert halls within walking distance, we are excited to have a late-night meeting place to chat, discuss shows and meet artists. Come for a chat and a cocktail at Intermission!.

Alongside late night weekend eats, the venue also has a takeaway licence (selected offerings) for those who want to keep the party going past close. Intermission is located at 125 Boundary St, West End and open from 4pm-10pm Tuesday, 4pm-12am Wednesday-Thursday, 2pm-1am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12pm-12am on Sundays.
